Croatia Vintage Kaftan Love

(that fourth photo is a funny)
Dress:  Croatia Vintage
Bangle:  Thrifted

I received this beautiful 60s kaftan in the mail this afternoon from New York's Croatia Vintage, on Etsy.  Kind of a wild frivolous specialty dress purchase that I impulse made last week.   It was through a Los Angeles based actress that I follow on Instagram that I heard of the little shop and when this gem popped up on my feed, I snagged this sucker quick.  I guess I've always felt a smidge bohemian, although I like to keep my options open style-wise and don't exactly subscribe to any definite profile or define myself by any sub-cultural fashion movements.

This piece definitely brings out the hippy.  And I truly love it, and mostly everything from Croatia Vintage (who did Not ask me to tell you about this by the way).  My favorite aspect of vintage clothing and the styles that came before this time in general is that we truly can collect and pick and chose and mix and match from all the goodness that has come before us.  I love the idea of the garments that we wear are walking around on the bodies of today and represent this space-time continuum in the form of fashion.  This collection of the evolution of garments.  Which is what I love about modern designs:  they are often derived and re-vamped fron the past, paying homage to the designers of yesterday while using what we have learned and moving forward in ethics and materials.  One of my favorite current movements in fashion is the re-working of classic silhouettes with thoughtful long lasting, natural materials.  This kaftan dress is cotton.  It has some holes, that I will easily stitched closed, but it is in amazing condition and comfortable, breathable and natural.

My husband captured these photos after dinner tonight.  The little one went to sleep early and the evening light drew us out to the yard.  I'm pretty sure I said (word for word) "people are going to make fun of me for this,"  but I don't care.  It's fun.  We laughed and my husband captured me as I am-- silly.  And at 31, still ever-in love with playing dress up.
